IN TREAD: Is it possible to recycle old tyres?

Each year millions of tyres are manufactured and sold across the world to replace those that are no longer suitable. But what happens to the tyres that are no longer fit for use? With governments in numerous countries encouraging recycling and reusing goods, new inventive ways are being proposed to find a use for old tyres.

There have been some inventive ways of recycling tyres.

From designers using tyres to make bags and dresses, to tyres been use to build economical houses it appears that all that is needed is a little imagination to find new use’s for tyres across the globe.

With the world tightening its purse strings, it has never been a better time to recycle – not to mention the positive impact it can have on the environment. Australia is leading the way in this revolutionary thinking and budget cutting by proposing to use tyres to protect beaches on the golden coast.

Over the last year, the Gold Coast has been battered by weather having a devastating effect on coastlines causing severe erosion. Reports show that the erosion could wipe about $30 million a year off the economy in potential tourism expenditure as a result of beach erosion if no management initiatives are undertaken. Tyres could be used as steps to help beach goers access the sand as a low budget measure to grapple with the devastating erosion affecting local shorelines.

The idea is simple, yet effective. It is small idea like these though that can make a huge impact on how we recycle tyres. Make sure when you recycle your next set of tyres your tyre fitter disposes of them correctly.
