It is a topic which comes up year after year, but with December swiftly approaching is something which cannot be ignored. As people prepare for the festive season, office Christmas parties and visiting relatives across the UK some motorists can sometimes be tempted to drive over the limit and risk not only their lives but also the innocent lives of others.

Are you drink driving this winter?
The current drink drive limits in the UK are set at the following:
- 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath
- 80 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood
- 107 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of urine
However if you ask drivers what the limit actually is, most will say “A glass of wine or a Pint”, but with over 15% of all UK road fatalities being directly linked to drink driving, giving an estimates of how much one can drink before being over the limit is not something to be done lightly.
Looking at the statistics, it is easy to see why the drink driving campaigns always step up a notch during the festive period. Motorists are 5 times more likely to knowingly drive over the legal limits if they think that they can get away with it, or they are embarking on a small journey. But with the number of casualties rising year on year, local police forces are not taking any chances this year.
The advice is simple: If you have had a drink DO NOT risk it and drink and drive. Instead plan how you intend to get home, leave the car keys and enjoy your night out with peace of mind.
