1. Wheel balancing stops premature tyre wear.
Many people believe that when buying new tyres, fitters just pop tyres on and its a case of job done. Wrong! Balancing helps prevent premature wear of your tyres and eliminates vibration. It also protects the suspension, steering system and bearings of your vehicle. 2. Tyre Valves
It may sound technical, but its really not, and quite easy to understand. Valves and valve caps protect you, and your tyres. Valves and their components are ordinarily made of rubber, so they are subject to deterioration over time. Replacing them when you buy new tyres is an inexpensive way to protect your tyres, vehicle and yourself.
3. Wheel Alignment
So it may seem like a never ending list with replacing tyres, but these smaller things can make a big difference. It’s difficult to tell if your wheels and axles are correctly aligned while driving. But if your vehicle’s suspension geometry is incorrect, its handling may be altered and your safety compromised. With newer cars it may be easier to tell if your alignment is off, its particular important to get it checked after any bumps and knocks, cars are fragile too you know! Wheel alignment can serious affect handling, and that is something which should not be compromised.
4. Tyre Pressure
We are always reinforcing the importance of checking tyre pressure, that’s because it is really important! You should check your tyre pressure ideally every month and before any long journeys. Correct tyre pressure reduces the risk of losing control of your vehicle. It also protects your tyres from premature wear and irreversible damage to the internal construction. You can check your tyre pressure at most local service stations, and the correct pressure will be shown in the user handbook or inside the vehicle door panel. Simples!
5. Storage
Most vehicles come with a space to store a spare tyre. Its important to check this occasionally too! If you get into a position at the roadside where you need a spare and yours is not road worthy you could be forking out a hefty roadside recovery bill. Think ahead.
