Save your life this spring

As many families across the country prepare for the big spring getaway over the bank holiday weekend, many are probably bracing themselves for a little traffic along the way, clogged up motorways and two children in the back seat harmoniously singing “are we there yet”. Well, make sure you get there a little bit quicker and make sure your vehicle is as safe as it can be.

We are all very good at ensuring we have the essentials packed during a weekend trip, however many of us fail to do the most basic of things…making sure our vehicles are prepared for a long journey. Typically family cars are used to making the simple A – B journeys, the school runs, the trip to the shops and a visit to Nan’s on a Sunday; not a 180 mile round trip to the coast. A long trip, with a great deal of luggage in tow can greatly affect your vehicles performance – especially if you are towing a caravan too.

Tyre Pressure. Check it. It could save your life. Its as simple as that.

If you don’t you could be one of those families who you see at the side of the road waiting for the AA to come rescue them. Its very easy to overlook, but a mundane task could save both your wallet and your life.

The pressure of extra weight on your vehicle can put strain on your tyres and lead to punctures or flat tyres. Which ultimately lead to new tyres! Driving on under-inflated tyres causes excessive heat build-up inside the tyre, which can lead to premature failure. Many vehicle manufacturers note that tyre pressure should be adjusted accordingly if travelling with heavy cargoes.

So before your getaway check your manufacturers guidebook and check what pressure your tyres should be. And just in case of any mishaps…download our App before you travel!
